At Southflyfisher, we've been chasing trout in New Zealand’s remote backcountry rivers for many years, and more recently exploring saltwater and international fly fishing destinations. Those decades of success, failure and riverside experience are reflected in this celebration of all things fly fishing – Southflyfisher.com.

New Content
We took advantage of the Covid lockdown to archive out-of-date content and rebuild this website with fresh material.  After launched our new look website, we are progressively rewriting articles on New Zealand, Patagonia, Mexico and the Pacific Islands. We're refreshing links and trip information and adding helpful travel advice for the next generation of destination anglers.

We use gear for long enough to form a solid view on it before we review it. Expect more honest advice, fresh stories, detailed packing lists, in-depth gear reviews, and updates on new and emerging destinations as we research, cast lines, and publish new articles

In 2024 we launched a second website called Exploration Angling focused on remote fly fishing locations. The off-the-beaten-track stuff. Check it out at https//:www.explorationangling.com.

There are lodge trip reports, field-tested gear reviews and tested packing lists. Plus a few opinion pieces to keep things real. Exploration Angling also offers free industry news delivered weekly into your inbox (we call them The Weekly Five), plus a bevy of information-packed resources detailing secret saltwater atolls and freshwater destination intel (especially for sea-run browns in Southern Patagonia). 

Exploration Angling is the deeper dive for anglers planning serious trips – or just dreaming of future destinations. We reckon it's fly fishing for those who go further.
