Tail Inn Lodge, Punta Herrero, Mexico

Tail Inn Lodge, Punta Herrero, Mexico

A new fishing lodge has announced its arrival on the plentiful flats of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Destination anglers seeking a Super Slam will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and lodgings here.

The Tail Inn offers the typical packaged trips of 7 nights/6 days or 5 nights/4 days fishing. Pricing is on par with other international locations, with early reports suggesting that this is a lodge that won’t settle with being compared to its Caribbean Sea neighbours. There are many facets of this operation that will pleasantly surprise the visiting saltwater angler.

Dining in Style

First up, the dining is exquisite, with a strong emphasis on fresh seafood as one would expect from a lodge owned by Saul Loya, a lifelong lobster fisherman from Punta Herrero. Saul has embraced sustainable fishing practices and, by underpinning the value of the local fishery through visiting anglers, is leading an economic revival of his local village.

The Tail Inn is not just a lodge; it’s the home of the Loya family who take a special pride in hosting new fishing friends from around the globe. The menu features family recipes dating back to their families’ inception into Punta Herrero many decades earlier.

I look forward to reading more reports of more exquisite off-water culinary achievements from The Tail Inn.

Fishing the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve

Beyond the three crown jewels of Permit, Bonefish, and Tarpon – the Snook, Trigger Fish, Jack Crevalle, and Barracuda among other species will keep your weary casting arm in action.

The lodge boasts six new custom state-of-the-art pangas complete with new 50 HP motors with a unique two guide per boat ratio available to ensure you get onto every available fishing opportunity during your time on the flats.

The adjacent Espiritu Santo Bay is one of the top Permit fisheries on earth and experienced anglers will have the chance for many daily shots, particularly if you align your visit with best months and tides.

If you can cast proficiently and choose to target Tarpon, you have a very good chance on the locals, ranging from 15-90lb. One of the local guides associated with the lodge is a well-known Tarpon and Snook specialist so you also have the opportunity to fish further south in the revered coastal lagoons for trophy fish.

Equally with Bonefish plentiful in good sizes in the Bay, your Grand Slam is firmly in sight and likely to only be limited by time on the water, your casting and a light dose of luck.

Lodge Accommodation

The lodge is absolute beachfront, only 30m from your awaiting panga.

There are six bedrooms – a maximum total of 12 anglers if you’re booking the entire lodge. Rooms can be configured as double or single, all with air conditioning, high speed Internet, private bathrooms and all with a friendly welcome to greet you each morning.

A welcome addition to the many lodge+guide options to fish for Permit, Bonefish and Tarpon on the Caribbean side of the Mexican coastline, The Tail Inn Lodge has been expertly set up for angler success on the water, comfort and luxury dining off the water – and to be a successful contributor to destination angling for many years to come.

Welcome to The Tail Inn Lodge, Punta Herrero, Espiritu Santo Bay, Mexico.
